How to Install Multiple Custom ROMs on Google Nexus 5

One of the best things which makes Android one of the greatest Smartphone OS in the market is its flexibility. Flexibility in the sense that users can tweak their ROM and also allows its user to root the device in order to have access to android hidden features that are not available for normal users. After rooting the device one could also install custom ROMs or third party ROMs that offer more exciting features than the available stock ROM
Most of us are familiar with custom ROMs and I believe if you are reading this post you already knows how to install custom ROM. Well if you don't, you can check out my previous post on how to install custom ROMs.

Even those of you who knows how to install custom ROM still do not know that it's possible to install/use mutiple ROMs on one smart phone provided the phone is rooted. If you don't know how to root an android smart phone, you can aswell check our previous post on how to Root both normal and sturbon android phone.


The phone which I'm gonna be using as an example today is Google Nexus 5. So here are the steps that you need to follow in order to install multiple custom ROMs on rooted Nexus 5 device..

Installing Multiple Custom ROMs on Google Nexus 5

Multiple custom ROMs can be installed with the help of an application developed by XDA developers. This app  allows the user to switch between two or more ROMs without any loss of data. The name of this wonderful app is MultiROM and it can only be used on any Nexus devices. So to install multiple custom ROMs using MultiROM application, your Nexus 5 device must be rooted and once that is done, you can simply follow the below procedure to have multiple ROM installed on your Google Nexus

Step 1: Download the MultiROM app from the below link

Step 2: Open the app and tap on “Install/Update” and then tick the options  ‘MultiROM’, ‘Kernal’ and ‘Recovery’ and then tap on the ‘Install’button..

Step 3: All the other required components will be automatically downloaded by the app. So make sure you have an active data plan while running the app. Once every other component has been installed, proceed to the next step.

Adding the Multiple Custom ROM

Step 1: copy the other ROM that you wish to install which you have downloaded to your device SD CARD root folder.

Step 2: Turn off your device and then reboot it into Recovery. if you don't know how to do that, check our previous post on how to boot into recovery mode.

Step 3: In the main screen of  recovery mode, navigate to Advance then MultiROM and then click on the option "Add ROM".

Step 4: Now select the next ROM zip file that you copied to your SD card root folder which you wish to install.

After you have done that, your device now has 2 custom rom installed and you can at any point in time switch between those ROMs Using the MultiROM application you downloaded from playstore easily without loosing any data.

If you wish to install another custom ROM on your device, you can repeat the same steps above. The above steps can be used to install multiple ROMs as you want, but at the same time you must make sure your device is capable of handling those ROMs.

NOTE: Before performing any operation with the MultiROM app, please perform a nandroid backup. If you don't know what a nandroid backup means, our previous post has something to say about that.
