Install TWRP Recovery and Root OnePlus X device

recently I published a post on how to flash Linage custom ROM on the OnePlusX device of which a rooted device with TWRP recovery installed is needed. So Today, I'm gonna show you guys how to install TWRP Recovery and at the same time Root OnePlus X device.

Flash TWRP Recovery

  1. On your computer download the TWRP recovery file from here; place it on desktop and also rename the fine into something easier to remember: for example – recovery.img.
  2. On your computer also install Android SDK: If you don't know how to do that, here is a complete guide on how to install Android SDK on Windows.
  3. Finally, on your PC you have to install the OnePlus X USB drivers.
  4. Good; now turn off your device and after doing so, reboot it into bootloader mode.
  5. Connect your Android Smartphone to your PC/Laptop with USB cable.
  6. From the folder or path from where you have placed the TWRP recovery file open a command prompt window.
  7. For cmd: press and hold Shift keyboard key while right clicking on any blank space.
  8. Now in the cmd window type: “fastboot devices” – your OnePlus X should be listed; if not, reinstall its USB drivers before retrying the steps from above.
  9. Next, in the same cmd window enter: “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”.
  10. Wait a few moments until the custom recovery image is being installed.
  11. Then enter “fastboot boot recovery.img” in order to reach the recovery environment.
  12. From there, tap on Reboot if you want to go back to Android OS.

Gain Root Access

  1. On your computer download the root package from this page.
  2. Save the file on desktop and don’t unzip.
  3. Connect your smartphone with your PC via USB cable.
  4. Transfer the SuperSU file on your OnePlus X.
  5. Then, remove the USB connection and power off your device.
  6. Enter recovery mode on your Android device by using the volue up key+ the power button
  7. From recovery tap on Install, locate and pick the root exploit(SuperSU file) you downloaded which is in zip format.
  8. Resume the flashing process by clicking on the root exploit and when done select Reboot.
  9. If a boot loop will be occurred, go back to recovery and select “wipe data factory reset” (a hard reset will be completed) and “wipe delavic cache”
Once all the bove step has been don successfully, then you have successfully installed TWRP recovery and rooted your OnePlus X.  you can now start flashing any OnePlus X custom ROM of your choice.
